BTS Thursdays- Just have to say…

I love my ad in this past edition. It was put together so beautifully. Take a look!  In Rapture looks awesome! Seriously, so I did a happy dance when I saw the wolf background they put with it. To me it showed that the ad designer really took the time to make sure she understood what would fit best with my story.

BTS offers many services to authors and publishers.

  • 1/4, 1/2, full page ads.
  • Features in the magazine Full page sneak peek. Full Page Interview, and Two page Spreads
  • Website ads with top banner, side bar, and Rotating Ad options
  • Website Interviews
  • Website Features

All of these are reasonably affordable options to Indie Authors, Publishers, and any established author. The back issues remain up all the time, so you’re ads remain viewable long after the issue has come and gone. Totally worth the money, so take a look at BTSeMag.

Teaser Tuesday- The Land of the Shadows

Chapter 2

When she finally reached her dorm, she knocked on Jackson’s door. After a year of begging him to leave his college in Utah, he had come back home to Illinois, and now lived right down the hall from her. They clicked in ways no one in this world could ever understand—in ways that confounded both of them from time to time—with an immeasurable bond that seemed to transcend time and space. They had been to hell and back together, and the hand basket they had traveled in had been worn and tattered along the way, but with love and nurturing, it was still intact. Jackson had been a lifeline in a time of darkness.

“What’s with that cold air?” He opened the door, and his hazel eyes darted to the hallway. It never failed to amaze her how tall he was compared to her average stature, and how his handsome features were always enhanced by the spiky brown hair with his blond and red highlights. Sometimes, she wondered if his magical abilities allowed him to roll out of bed without a hair out of place, for he made his appearance seem effortless.

“It was following me again, so I took care of it. Now they’re really pissed.”

“Come inside,” he said quickly, closing the door behind him. “I’ll light some candles and burn some incense right away.”

“I’ll make an energy barrier. They’re coming, and we need to protect ourselves. We can’t let them find us.” Lyssa took her wand out of her backpack and started to draw a protective circle around them, calling silently to each of the four corners to protect them from the darkness outside.

“What are they going to do?” Jackson asked her as he lit the last candle for spirit to protect them.

“I don’t know, but I’m tired of running. There are enough of us on this campus to do something about those things out there. First, we need to find out where they’re coming from.” Looking through her bag of oddities, she let out a sigh of relief when she found the feather from one of the large crows that spent a lot of time outside her window. Lyssa had considered the possibility that this particular bird was one of her totem animals, so she had picked up the feather to preserve the link that she had felt to him. When she had first channeled with him, she knew at once that she was right. From that moment on, the black bird seemed to follow her everywhere, and she had taken to calling him Thor.

Lyssa placed the feather in the middle of their circle and pondered how she could work with her totem to find this evil presence. “Keep an eye out. I’m going in.” She sat down and crossed her legs in front of her. Picking up the feather from the floor, she held it in her right hand, and then grounded herself by breathing in the energy around her until she could see the rainbow of energy flowing from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet. Lyssa called out to the bird in an ethereal voice that was in between planes of existence. “Thor, brother bird, let me see what you see. Let your eyes be my eyes. Show me where they are.”

As the bird took flight, she could only see through its eyes. It felt as if she were wearing blinders that blocked out everything except what she could see in the space on her forehead between her two eyes, right where the axis of the third eye was located. He flew away from the college campus and down the main street that connected the two sister cities. Then the bird soared over the movie theater, the grocery store, and past the hospital. Soon, he was crossing over downtown to where the old abandoned factory buildings were located. When he reached one of these buildings, Thor perched on a windowsill on the fifth floor.

The building was like any other abandoned building. The windows were filmy; some broken, some boarded. This window was clouded over, making it hard to see the people inside, but it was easy to feel the darkness that her totem felt. The air was thick, making it hard to breathe. The disturbing blackness was ebbing around her like the pulse of a migraine at the front of her temples. After a few moments, the bird trained its eyes on the occupants of the room.

A small murmuring of collective voices came from inside. Five people stood near the flames of a small fire, chanting words that were indecipherable to the outside world. As the chanting got louder, the flames rose higher from the old oil barrel, so high that the flames seemed to leap into the air and live separately from their earthly container. They took the shape of the shadows, much like the shadow she had seen earlier this evening. It seemed to turn with haunting accuracy as it looked directly to where Thor was perched outside. Instantaneously, she felt the air being sucked out of her lungs, and the sight that her totem spirit had provided her was quickly deflected. She dropped the feather and gasped, “They’re onto me. Quick, send the guardians to erase our location before we’re found.”

Jackson sent guardians of each corner…North, East, South and West. They needed protection from the minions that were sure to find them if they did not act quickly. While he summoned the guardians, she asked her spirit guides to push out any unwelcome guests from their dorm as they waited in silence.

The phone rang, and Jackson picked it up before the second ring. “Hello?”

“What the hell did you do?” Lana accused through the phone.

“What do you mean?” Jackson asked quietly.

“Have you seen the shadows outside? They’re all circling the campus right now, you moron! Tell me you didn’t try to find them?”

“We may have tried to find them. But, we can’t worry about that right now. We’ve sent out the guardians to mask our location.”

“I’m on my way.” Lana’s annoyance was clear even from across the room.

“Oh lord, here we go!”  Lyssa sighed outwardly. “She’ll bring her whole coven with her before long. We don’t need that attention here.”

“Give her some credit, Lyssa. She won’t take any unnecessary risks.”

After ten minutes, there was a knock on the door. Jackson opened it up to find a man that neither one of them had seen before. “You two, come with me right away.” His voice was as commanding as his sudden presence.

“Who the hell are you?” Lyssa put her hand on the phone, ready to dial for help.

“It doesn’t matter at the moment. We need to get you out of here. Right now. It’s for your own good. Think of it as a witness protection situation.” His face was shadowed and hard to read. He pulled out his wand and fired a bolt into the hallway behind him. Jackson and Lyssa both pulled out their wands and jumped to the door to peer outside. There were shadows closing in on them, and there was no escape.

“Grab my hand if you want to live!”

They quickly shot glances at each other, knowing that there was only one option, and it was not a choice they would normally take. They would have to trust this stranger and put their hope for survival out to the universe. Lyssa closed her eyes as she grabbed his hand, half expecting to be devoured by the shadows swirling right behind them. There was a static electricity pop and then a whoosh of air around them.

Manic Monday- Hello World!

Hi everyone! Sorry I was away for two weeks. My little girl turned 4 and it involved turning the whole house into a bow-tique. Lots of preparation involved and in the end it was certainly worth it. She was one very happy camper!

So what has this author been up to? Well, in the past month or so I have written two books that will be part of an erotic romance series which might have up to 8 books in the series. Crushed, and Little Red are already complete. I’m currently working on book 3, Renegade. I can’t wait to start book 4, Haunted, but I have to finish this one first. I also finished a revision of Black Dove, which is one of my Young Adult series. It will be published under a different pen name as to keep the two age ratings separate.

I’ve done so many events and giveaways this summer that it’s hard to keep my own brain straight. I also released In Chains on August 1 and it has been receiving a lot of exciting comments from readers. I didn’t realize how attached I was to the story line until I finally put it out. It has made people happy, sad, and furious with me all at different points in the story. I didn’t do it on purpose. It is never my intent to play with people’s emotions; I simply go where the story takes me.

What else? I’m gearing up for Penned Con next month.  It’s my first book signing and I’m totally nervous. Thankfully, my wonderful cousin Author Jordan Deen will be there too. We used to be thick as thieves back in the day. I haven’t seen her since I was a teenager. I can’t wait!  During Penned Con, The Land of the Shadows will be free on Amazon for Kindle. Can’t wait to see how many people download the book at the event. What a great way to meet new people!

I am hoping to get back in the swing of things with my posts. Thankfully my wonderful street team has kept the momentum going even when I had to take a break. I can’t tell you how much it means to me to have such amazing people behind me. I’m humbled beyond belief that someone else believes in me so much. I’ve also had some fantastic reviews on Amazon lately and am just over the moon with the kind words of my readers. You all make me want to write more stories to keep you engaged.

Teaser Tuesday- In Chains Destined Series Book 3

This past Friday I released my last book in the Destined Series. In Chains took almost two years to craft, because a lot of thought had to go into the story line. I wanted it to build and resolve. At the same point in time, don’t despair Destined Fans, you never know,  I could actually come back to it.

My first day with the release went very well. I’ve already gotten two 5 star reviews at Amazon. So thrilled by that. I can’t even begin to tell you how great it makes me feel that others like my work. In fact, some people are even putting in their reviews that I am one of their favorite writers. Dream come true! I don’t care how much money you make, if the fans don’t love you it’s meaningless.

So, I’m going to attach some teaser photos for you all and the video, which is AMAZING!

The veil of evening was reaching across his office window when Hunter’s cell phone on the side of his desk rang. Checking the caller ID, he frowned when he saw that the number was blocked.
“This is Hunter Donovan,” he barked into the phone.
“Do you always answer the phone in such a cheerful manner?” a seductive female voice reprimanded.
“That depends on who this is.”
“Cary told me of your little meeting today, and your interest in my next book. You don’t waste any time do you?”
Hunter’s heart skipped a beat. “Well, well, Ms. Slut. Nice to hear your voice again. I hope your time at the Book Expo was worthwhile.”
“You were the highlight of my trip, Mr. Donovan.”
Hunter smiled as he sat back in his creaky desk chair. “I’m so glad. I was beginning to think you didn’t like me.”
“Have you ever met a woman who didn’t like you?”
The question made Hunter chuckle. “Which answer will get me your next book, Ms. Slut?”
A high-pitched tinkling laugh came through the speaker of his iPhone, making Hunter’s stomach flutter ever so lightly. “I like a man who doesn’t waste time with sweet talk. Check your email. I just sent you the manuscript. It’s called The Bondage Club, and if you’re interested, e-mail me a contract, and I will look it over.”
“Can I ask what it’s about? I mean, with a title like that I can guess, but….” His voice faded as his curiosity rose.
“There are many different kinds of bondage, Mr. Donovan, that don’t involve ropes, chains, or even handcuffs.”
Hunter gaped at his cell phone. “I don’t get it.”
“Love can be a form of bondage,” she explained. “We can get tied to someone just as easily as we can be tied up by someone. The book is about bondage in all of its forms.”
“Then I look forward to reading it.” He paused as he thought of an idea. “But why not come to my office? We can discuss the details of the contract over lunch,” he pursued with a hint of insistence in his voice.
“I don’t think so. Lunch with you would be dangerous.”
Hunter coyly smiled. “For which one of us, Ms. Slut?”
“I’m not your type, Mr. Donovan.”
Hunter’s body rippled with the hint of a challenge. “You never know; if Donovan Books handles your novel, we may grow on each other.”
“I hope not. Getting involved with the man who publishes my book would complicate matters. I’m also a very demanding author. I might get on your nerves after a time.”
“I have a lot of demanding authors. You would fit right in.”
“Do you usually try and date your authors, or will I be the first?”
He fingered a corner of the manuscript open on the desk before him as his imagination began to wander. “You would be the first. I never date clients.”
“I heard a nasty little rumor to the contrary, about your brother and Monique Delome. They were engaged and then she up and married some Texas oil man. Lucky girl.”
“Lucky to be rid of my brother,” Hunter returned, pushing the manuscript in front of him to the side.
“Oh, do I detect a note of sibling rivalry, Mr. Donovan?”
He leaned back in his chair and turned his eyes to his arched window. “Rivalry, nah. More like deep-seated hatred. And if I’m going to bare my soul to you, you should start calling me, Hunter.”
“Let me guess, Hunter.” Her voice was throaty and delicious, spurring on his desire. “He stole your Legos when you were six and you have never forgiven him.”
Hunter ran his hand over his face, feeling the conversation was getting a little too personal. “Never mind my brother. Let’s talk about you.”
“I make it a practice never to talk about myself. The less people know about me, the better.”
“I don’t agree, Ms. Sl….” Hunter crinkled his brow. “What else can I call you? Ms. Slut is too—”
“Call me Smuttie, if you like.”
“Smuttie…don’t you have a real name?”
“Smuttie is all you need to know.” The sound of voices in the background broke in. “Let me know what you think of my manuscript, Hunter. I’ll be waiting to hear from you.” Then the line went dead.
